ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Miriam Flores and I am a Latina Graphic Designer and Photographer based in Salt Lake City, Utah.

At a young age, my uncle's passion for drawing and painting inspired me to pursue art. Witnessing his artwork ignited my curiosity and empowered me to pick up a pencil and start drawing. Since then, art has become an integral part of my life. Tragically, in November 2021, my uncle, Juan Manuel Cardenas Perez, passed away. As a way to honor his memory, all of my artwork has been dedicated to him.

Beyond personal connections, I am driven by a deep passion for representing my community and promoting social justice through my art and photography. Art has provided me with a medium to capture the moments of resistance and resilience that exist within marginalized communities. Art is also a powerful tool that has helped me express myself and how I understand the world around me. Creating art allows me to uplift the voices of those who are not often heard or seen. My artwork today explores contemporary issues, demonstrates resistance, humanizes the struggle, celebrates and uplifts the joy and strength of our communities, and exhibits an on going effort to explore and imagine art that encompasses and expresses social justice.
